Description: A spectacular necklace comprised of five rare faience bee amulets and spherical faience beads from the Middle Kingdom period, interspersed with modern beads of 22 carat gold.
The necklace has an 18 carat gold clasp.
The bee (biti) was a royal emblem of Upper Egypt.
To illustrate the authenticity of the bee amulets, the large image also features a broken example (not included with the necklace) which shows that the material, method of manufacture and age are all consistent with a Middle Kingdom dating; the large image also features a single fake bee amulet for comparative purposes.
