Description: A Jewish incantation bowl with faded inscription in Aramaic script.
Bowls of this type, sometimes referred to as demon trap bowls, were placed in the foundations of houses, with the intention that the magical incantation would trap evil spirits inside. The incantations on these bowls are most commonly in Mandaic or Aramaic, but Syriac and Pahlavi inscriptions are also recorded.
