Description

A beautifully sculptured and painted Tang Dynasty pottery football "Cuju / Ts'u-chü" player. Thought to be oldest origins in the world of the game. Cuju was popularly played along the lines of modern football amongst the Chinese military and noblemen. This figure shows the player intensely focussed on the ball balanced on the right foot. Wearing the hair tied in a classic topknot by a bowed hair ribbon, wearing long flowing robes, with vibrant original pigment decoration. 


This piece is accompanied by a thermoluminescence test certificate from the Oxford Authenticity, United Kingdom,  (HK 2123-687)
