Description

A shell kohl bottle carved from a section of tridacna (clam) shell from the Persian Gulf, the exterior surface with a series of finely incised scenes including a birds of prey (possibly vultures), fish classic eye motifs and incised linear designs around the upper rim and base. 

Origin:

Baluchistan region, Hellenistic period (Seleucid Empire), 4th-1st century B.C.

Dimensions:

Height: 7 cm / Diameter: 1.8 cm

Condition:

One small area of loss on the bottom edge, with dryish patina; the carving with wear and patina consistent with great age.
